Chuco Cuenco

As part of a school project, I was tasked with designing a distinctive "bowl-style" restaurant. I wanted to create something fresh, modern, and rooted in authentic culture. The result was Chuco Cuenco, a conceptual Mexican restaurant dedicated to serving authentic Mexican cuisine while celebrating cultural artistry. What makes Chuco Cuenco truly special is its focus on craftsmanship. I envisioned every tile and bowl in the restaurant being handmade and hand-painted by talented artists from the El Paso/Juárez region. Guests could even purchase these one-of-a-kind pieces, allowing them to bring a piece of Mexican culture into their homes. This idea not only supports local artisans but also makes every dining experience unique and meaningful.

Menu Design

The name of the restaurant, Chuco Cuenco, draws its inspiration from the rich cultural history and meaning behind its two words. “Chuco” is an old-school term for Chicano zooters, symbolizing their unique style, attitude, language, and culture. Rooted in Juárez and Chihuahua, Mexico, the term eventually made its way to El Paso, Texas—affectionately known as "Chuco Town."

—a blend of tradition, artistry, and flavor served in every dish.

With Chuco Cuenco, my goal was to create more than just a restaurant—I wanted to offer a connection to culture and community, leaving guests with lasting memories they could treasure for years to come.
